What is BLS Certification?
“BLS” stands for “Basic Life Support.” This term is sometimes used interchangeably with CPR, and you may have seen “BLS certification” listed as a requirement in job descriptions. For a lot of people, this can be confusing.
BLS and CPR certification are basically the same thing. It’s more common to see the term “BLS” used instead of “CPR” in healthcare-provider settings, however, and BLS is often informally used to describe a training program at the medical-professional level.
However, BLS can also be used more generically to indicate any kind of CPR class—especially among providers in the UK. That’s why it’s important to discern what type of training the job actually requires, and what’s included in classes, to make sure they align.
This BLS course provides in-depth first aid; CPR for adults, children and infants; use of an AED; and OSHA-compliant bloodborne pathogen training—so it’s compatible with employers’ training requirements on the healthcare-provider level.
This class is not just for healthcare professionals. You don’t need prior medical training in order to be BLS certified.
In fact, we encourage anyone who wants to learn to take our courses—as it ensures you’ll be ready if you ever face a situation where you might be called upon to give lifesaving care.
